Michael Thibodeux's Testimonial
When Michael Thibodeaux's weight reached 466, his doctor urged him to consider weight loss surgery. His first reaction? "I thought I was copping out." Like every other patient, Michael had tried every diet. This was a last resort. "I had to do it."
But the real moment of truth came when Michael accompanied his son to a hospital after his son's good friend got in an accident. His son talked to one of the nurses who had gastric bypass surgery. His son was convinced and told Michael, "Go for it Daddy. It will help you!" Michael worried if he'd be around to watch his son grow up and realized it was time to check it out. He found the Program Manager for LivLite "extremely helpful in getting everything in order for the procedure."
Since his surgery in Iberia, Louisiana in December 2003, Michael has lost 225 pounds and is still losing more. Before surgery, he couldn't even walk 20 feet without being out of breath and having to hold onto something. He was also on ten different medications and insulin. Now he walks three times a day and can cover 2 miles without any problem. He's down to three meds and very little insulin. How's Michael's quality of life now? "Excellent. I can do anything I want to!" Michael had no problem adjusting to the new eating habits. "I made up my mind. This is how I have to do it, otherwise I'm a goner." In fact, he doesn't think that much about food anymore: "I have to watch the clock or I'll forget to eat."
